Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tsunamis - The Natural History of Vancouver Island and the West Coast
Victoria, B.C. Guided Driving and Walking Sightseeing Tour

This half day field tour is a must for individuals interested in earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis. The field tour takes place in and around Victoria, B.C. Participants will learn how Vancouver Island was created and molded and, in the process, learn about earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis - all while enjoying some of the world class Victoria and area sightseeing. From secluded sand beaches to major tourist attractions, the natural history of the area is explored. By tour end, participants will have gained an understanding of these amazing natural phenomena that continue to affect Vancouver Island and the West Coast and learn the answers to many questions that face the NW Pacific today. Is the West Coast at risk from a major earthquake or volcanic eruption? Will an earthquake cause Vancouver Island to fall into the Pacific? Will an earthquake triggered tsunami cause devastation along the West Coast/Pacific NW similar to that seen in the Indian Ocean? Tours depart from downtown Victoria at 8:30 am and return at 1:00 pm. Afternoon tours can be scheduled for a 1:30 pm departure, returning at 6 pm. Tours with lunch can be scheduled for morning departure and are 6 hours in duration.
